Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based model that assumes you aren't a "monolith"—you’re a system of sub-personalities trying to keep the production from collapsing.

The Director’s Cut: What is IFS?

Think of your psyche as a high-stakes production.

We all carry a crowded internal cast—a revolving door of "parts" that step up to manage the stage when life gets messy. In this space, all parts are welcome.

We don’t exile these characters or cancel the show. We sit down with them to understand their original intent, moving toward a state of systemic flexibility and unburdened Self-leadership where you are the compassionate Director of your own life.

Navigating the Internal “Production”

If you are seeking IFS in Los Angeles, you likely feel the exhaustion of a system that is constantly over-functioning. You may be navigating:

  • The Over-functioning Manager: The part that keeps your calendar "lethal" and refuses to let the production stop for a break.

  • The Protective Critic: A misplaced "Inner Mentor" who heckles you into "safety" to avoid the risk of being seen.

  • The Foggy Shutdown: "Firefighter" parts that pull the alarm and shut the system down (dissociation or burnout) when the world gets too loud or sensory-heavy.

  • Unresolved Burdens: Sensitive parts—your "Exiles"—who are still carrying the heavy emotional furniture from years ago in the wings.

The Crew (Protectors)

These aren't "bad habits"—they’re overworked crew members running on an outdated script. They keep the curtains closed because they genuinely believe the audience isn’t ready for the real you. We work to unblend from them so they can finally take a break and find a new, less exhausting role.

The Director (Self)

This is You. Not a character, but the innate energy of calm, curiosity, and compassion. We help the Director get back into the booth so the parts can stop panicking and start collaborating on a script that actually fits who you are today.

The Stagehands (Exiles)

The sensitive parts of you moving heavy scenery in the dark. They’ve been told the show can’t go on if they step into the light, so they carry the weight of the past. We witness their story so they can finally unburden that "emotional sofa" and simply be.

Why IFS Works for Neurodivergent Systems

For the neurodivergent brain, the "system" is often in a state of chronic polarization between Masking Managers and Sensory Firefighters. IFS allows us to move beyond the "shoulds" of neurotypical society and work directly with the internal logic of your nervous system.

We aren't trying to "fix" your parts; we are restoring the Self-to-part connection so your internal system can finally stop bracing for impact.

Not sure if IFS or EMDR is the right fit? We will determine which modality best supports your unique nervous system during our initial consultation.
